TOUR CIV01: HIGHLIGHTS OF ROME

An interesting tour to discover the beauty of the enchanting Vatican City:   the awe - inspiring St. Peter’s Basilica with its splendid Bernini’s square surrounded by  marble columns, statues of Saints and Popes;  entering the largest church in the world,   you will enjoy the marvels of this masterpiece of art built on the grave of St. Peter’s and housing  one more of the Michelangelo’s masterpieces, his first and best known “Pietà”.

The worldwide famous  Vatican Museums: within the small, independent state of the Vatican City, there is an exceptional collection of artworks from every era - Over one thousand rooms and galleries are known collectively as the Vatican Museums, containing amazing treasures of art collected by the Popes over centuries. here will marvel at the impressive Michelangelo’s  masterpieces housed in the Sistine Chapel,  such as the impressive frescoed ceiling and, above all, its Last  Judgement.  

A delicious luncheon at a local restaurant will be included during the tour to enjoy a nice break and experience the specialities of the Italian cuisine.

After lunch we will stop at one of the most important  monuments of  ancient Rome,  the Colosseum,  symbol of the Eternal City: built between 75-80 A.D. and representing   the eternity of Roman civilization, this monument is no doubt  a masterpiece of classical architecture with  its three superimposed classical orders, it; this enormous amphitheater was large enough to seat 80.000 spectators at such Roman events as gladiatoral combats and the martyrdom of Christians.

You will also drive by the main monuments of the city and have the opportunity to see the ROMAN FORUM where the city of Rome was founded in the year 753 B.C. upon the PALATINE HILL, one of the seven historical hills and exactly  the religious, political and commercial centre of the ancient Rome that witnessed the growth of the CAPUT MUNDI.

You will cross the Tiber River and see the Circus Maximus, the Capitoline Hill, the white marble Victor Emmanuel Monument and Mussolini’s Balcony in Venice Square before resuming our return ride to the Civitavecchia dock.

 THIS TOUR WILL NOT AVAILABLE ON SUNDAYS BECAUSE THE VATICAN MUSEUMS ARE CLOSED.
